Our wooden hotel cards can be supplied with an RFID chip and antenna embedded within the card. This allows guests to unlock their room by holding or tapping the card against the hotel door reader. Wooden RFID cards are available with different chip technologies, including commonly used 13.56 MHz contactless options. correct chip must be selected for your existing hotel locking system. Two cards may look identical but contain completely different technologies, memory structures or programming requirements.

Laser engraving works particularly well on natural wood because it creates a permanent design while allowing the grain to remain visible. Printed designs can provide greater flexibility where colour branding or more detailed artwork is required. 

Wooden hotel cards are available in a selection of natural shades and grain patterns. Depending on the required technology, design and quantity, available options may include lighter woods, darker woods and bamboo-style finishes.

Each piece of wood has its own grain and colouring. Small variations between cards are therefore normal and form part of the natural appearance of the material. This means a wooden card will not have the completely uniform finish associated with a traditional printed PVC card.

Traditional PVC cards generally offer the widest range of full-colour printing options and a highly uniform surface. They can also be more suitable where cards are exposed to frequent moisture, rough handling or very high turnover.

Wooden cards provide a more natural appearance and a different tactile experience. They are often selected by hotels where presentation, brand positioning and material choice are important parts of the guest experience.

Because the card contains an RFID chip, antenna and other components, its complete environmental profile depends on the exact construction rather than the visible wood surface alone. Hotels should therefore avoid broad claims such as “plastic-free”, “fully biodegradable” or “100% recyclable” unless these claims have been verified for the specific product supplied.

They may, provided the correct RFID chip and card construction are selected. We will ask for details of your locking system and existing cards before recommending a product. Testing may be required where the card technology cannot be confirmed.
